Yang Chaoyue born on September 12, 1998, in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province, also known as Sister Chaoyue and Cun Hua, is a Chinese actress and singer best known for ranking third in Tencent's Produce 101 and debuting as a member of Rocket Girls 101. Her parents divorced when she was twelve, leading Yang to leave formal education after junior high school and take on various jobs to support her family, including working as a waitress, garment worker, and flyer distributor. These early hardships shaped her pragmatic outlook and later contributed to her relatable persona as an entertainer.
Yang began her entertainment career in 2016 through a girl group contest associated with the mobile game Battle of Balls, winning the popularity vote and earning a modest salary with accommodations. This led to her becoming a trainee under Wenlan Culture and eventually joining the pre-debut group CH2 in 2017. During this period, her activities mainly involved promotional events rather than formal performance training.
In 2018, Yang Chaoyue participated in Tencent’s girl-group survival show Produce 101, gaining wide public attention despite criticism of her singing and dancing abilities. Her "rags-to-riches" background, sweet demeanor, and distinctive looks resonated with audiences, and she finished third with over 139 million votes, securing a debut in the group Rocket Girls 101 on June 23, 2018. While with Rocket Girls 101, Yang released solo promotional songs such as "Follow Me" and participated in variety programs including Heart Signal and major events like the FIBA Basketball World Cup draw ceremony. The group disbanded on June 23, 2020, after which Yang pursued solo acting and variety work.
Yang Chaoyue transitioned to acting, starring in television series and web dramas, often in leading roles. Yang has also ventured into theater, making her stage debut in The Insanity in 2024, and continues to appear in variety shows as both a panelist and cast member.
Yang released her debut EP, "Authentic", in 2024, co-writing lyrics reflecting her artistic struggles and personal growth. She has previously released solo promotional singles including "Follow Me" (2018), "March On and On," and "Haha Farmer" (2019) as part of Rocket Girls 101 projects, reflecting a multi-faceted career in both acting and music.
Yang has been recognized as one of China’s most influential people, receiving the China Newsweek’s Most Influential Artist of the Year award in 2018. Forbes China has also acknowledged her in both the Celebrity 100 and 30 Under 30 Asia lists. She has won awards for web variety shows and rising television acting talents.
Despite facing public scrutiny and debate over her talent, Yang Chaoyue has established herself as a multi-talented entertainer, successfully transitioning from idol performance to acclaimed acting roles, with continued work in variety shows, theater, and music. Her story embodies perseverance and the impact of public support in China’s idol and entertainment industry.
