She began her formal performance training at the Beijing Dance Academy, graduating from the Chinese Dance Department in 1999, before pursuing further studies in acting at the Central Academy of Drama, where she graduated from the Performance Department in 2005.
Qu Shanshan launched her acting career shortly after graduation, initially appearing as a guest in several films in 2005, including Water North, Crazy Rose, Basketball Baby, and The Story of Dunzi. She gained wider recognition in 2008 for her role as Ning Wushuang in the ancient costume mystery drama Amazing Detective Di Renjie 3.
